Pet Memorial Stones in Dubai: what to know
Across Dubai, a stone often outlives the house it was placed in. Families sell up, downsize or move for work, and a memorial set in concrete stays behind. That's why so many of the stones we see recommended for Dubai gardens sit on a gravel bed: they look permanent but lift out in an afternoon if life changes.
Most families in Dubai don't order a stone straight away, and that's sensible. A fresh grave settles for a month or two, the right wording often comes later, and a temporary marker holds the spot perfectly well. When you're ready, a local maker or an online engraver can usually turn a stone around in a few weeks.

How Dubai remembers its dead, and its pets
Many families blend traditions and languages, and a pet's stone can reflect that. If you'd like an inscription in two languages or a script other than the Latin alphabet, ask the maker whether they can cut it, and send the text as a file rather than retyping it so accents and characters come through exactly.
What a pet memorial stone costs in Dubai
Wherever you are, the same three things drive the price of a pet memorial stone: the material, how much lettering and imagery you want, and how far a heavy stone has to travel. The US prices below are a rough guide; ask makers serving Dubai for a written quote in local currency.
We haven't found published pet memorial stone prices for the United Arab Emirates, so the table shows US prices as a reference. Local stonemasons who make human headstones are usually the best first call, and many will cut a small pet marker. Ask for a written total in local currency that includes lettering and delivery.

Where a pet stone can go in Dubai
Pet cemeteries in Dubai each set their own marker rules: size, material, whether upright stones are allowed and who installs them. Human cemeteries generally don't accept pets. If you plan a cemetery stone, get the rules sheet first. For a home memorial, here's what we know about burial and scattering locally.
In the UAE, burying animals isn't permitted[9], so a memorial stone here doesn't mark a grave. Families often place an engraved stone in a garden or courtyard beside an urn, or keep a small stone indoors. Intense summer sun fades resin and painted designs quickly and heats dark stone, so choose light granite or natural stone with carved lettering for outdoor spots.
How to choose, order and set a pet stone
- Give yourself time. Nobody is waiting on the stone, and newly turned earth needs several weeks to firm up before it will hold something heavy.
- Talk about the words with your family. Kids tend to come up with the truest lines, and reading a phrase aloud is the quickest test of whether it belongs.
- Decide how permanent it should be. Set on gravel, a stone lifts out if you move; set in concrete, it usually stays.
- Order from a maker who sends a proof, and read it on your phone at arm's length, roughly how it will look from the path.
- Choose an installation day with soft ground and good weather, and dig a shallow bed for 3 to 4 inches of gravel.
- Place the stone together. Turning it into a brief ritual helps many families: someone tells a memory, a well-loved toy goes beside it, or a plant goes in.
Remembering your pet beside the stone
A stone doesn't have to be the only memorial. Some families keep most of the ashes indoors in an urn, bury a spoonful under the garden stone and keep a paw print or collar in a memory box. Each piece does a different job, and together they give you somewhere to look, something to hold and a place to visit.

Questions people ask
Can I bury my pet at home in Dubai and mark it with a stone?
Often yes, with conditions such as burial depth, distance from wells and water, and whether you own the land. Cities, homeowners' associations and landlords can be stricter than the wider rules. The stone itself rarely needs permission; the burial is what's regulated. Each city page lists the local notes we have.
Which stone lasts longest outdoors in Dubai?
Granite, almost everywhere. It barely absorbs water, so it survives freeze-thaw, and carved lettering doesn't fade in sun. Slate and river rock last well in mild, dry places; sandstone, concrete and cast resin are the most likely to crack, soften or fade. Deep sandblasted lettering matters as much as the stone.
Is a local stonemason or an online maker better in Dubai?
It depends on the stone. For heavy granite and upright headstones, a local monument company that delivers and sets the stone is often worth it. For small engraved stones and river rocks, online makers are usually cheaper and include lettering. Whichever you choose, approve a written proof before anything is cut.
How much does a pet memorial stone cost in Dubai?
We haven't found a reliable local price survey, so compare two or three written quotes from local stonemasons and online makers. For scale, US sellers list engraved garden stones from ~$39[10] and flat granite markers from $157.95[3]. Freight on heavy granite can add a lot.
Do I need a permit for a pet headstone in Dubai?
Usually not. The rules that exist mostly cover the burial itself, such as whether you own the land and how far the grave is from water, rather than the stone. Homeowners' associations, landlords and pet cemeteries can set their own conditions, so check those before choosing an upright stone or setting anything in concrete.
Do pet cemeteries in Dubai allow any memorial stone?
No. Each pet cemetery sets its own rules on marker size, material, flush or upright style and who installs it, and many charge a setting fee. Ask for the written rules before you order a stone. Our pet cemetery marker checklist covers what to ask.
