How Brazil remembers its dead, and its pets
Whole-body burial at home is common in Brazil, where cremation is chosen for a minority, roughly 9%[1], of the people who die. A dog's grave is longer than it is wide, so decide which end is the head and set the stone there, facing the path you'll approach from. Is cremation common in Brazil?
For people, yes: about 9%[1] of Brazil deaths end in cremation, according to Exame, citing Sincep (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Sao Paulo follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
What should a written quote for a pet memorial stone include?
The exact stone type and thickness, the size, the lettering method and depth, the number of characters or lines included, any image, the proof process, delivery to your door and all taxes and import charges. If you're ordering from abroad, ask for the total in local currency. A quote missing delivery or taxes isn't really comparable.
Can a stone ship to Sao Paulo from the US?
Often, but check the total. Heavy granite ships by freight, and cross-border shipping, import duties and local taxes can add a lot.
